FAQs
Got a few questions? No problem! Explore our FAQs for everything wine tour-related. Find the info you need to start your ultimate wine adventure!
What is the best season to visit Bordeaux?
Warmer months between April and October are the most popular, but each season offers unique experiences. Spring brings blossoming vineyards, while autumn boasts harvest festivities. Winter offers cosy tastings by the fire. Summer is hot indeed so we can visit Pessac-Léognan more often for its white wines, the Bay of Arcachon, Sauternes.
How many days do I need to visit Bordeaux?
You could have a lifetime here ;). But for quality, a minimum of 3 days is awesome. It gives you time to discover the city. It is a very historic, very beautiful city. There is so much to see and enjoy, Bordeaux is not just wine. Then 2 days to discover the wine areas including at least a day in Saint-Emilion. If you have more days? Arcachon, Cognac, Armagnac, Dordogne, Basque country.
Do you organise multiple day tours?
Of course. From a day to week-long holidays, I’m the one you need ;). We talk the itinerary back and forth taking all your wishes and my recommendations. We can start from Cognac, drive south towards Bordeaux, some landscape in Dordogne, visit the Basque country and I drop you in San Sebastian. Everything can be custom to your liking.
What are the most popular wine tour destinations in Bordeaux?
Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Medoc, Pessac-Léognan and Sauternes wine tours are iconic choices, offering breathtaking landscapes, historic chateaux, and exceptional wine tastings. 2 days is a minimum to explore at least 2 of the 4 famous regions.
Is there anything I should bring on a wine tour?
For your comfort, we recommend wearing layers to accommodate changing temperatures in the cellars. Comfortable shoes are essential for vineyard walks. Don’t forget sunglasses and a hat for sunny days, and a raincoat if the weather turns. Bring cash or a credit card for any tasting fees or purchases.
Can I visit the 1st growth?
I’d rather be honest, it is hard. Almost impossible. But the good news is there are hundreds of other superb options.
Right Bank :
- Château Margaux and Mouton-Rothschild : Need a booking months in advance, if you do have so, I can custom tour around. Contact me asap when you have it.
- Château Latour : Impossible unless you know a wine-merchant or distributor, I let you do your research within your contacts.
- Château Haut-Brion : A tasting can be organised within their boutique.
- Lafite-Rothschild is going under renovation
Left Bank :
- Cheval-Blanc, Canon, Petrus, Le Pin do not offer visit
- Pavie, Figeac require a booking while in advance, highly demanded.
What is included in the sample tour price?
Our sample tour price includes transportation in comfortable vehicles, an expert English-speaking guide to enhance your experience, a personalised itinerary tailored to your preferences, and refreshing bottled water throughout the day. Pick-up and drop-off within Bordeaux.
What is NOT included in the tour price?
While our tour price covers the essentials, please note that tasting fees at wineries are not included unless requested if you are a travel agent. These fees typically range from 25 to 50 euros per person and can vary based on the winery and tasting experience. We can discuss your preference, from an “off the beaten tracks” winery to the most exclusive, prices are not the same. Additionally, meals, gratuities, and any pick-up or drop-off outside of Bordeaux are not included. However, we’re happy to assist you with additional arrangements as needed.
Where to buy wine in Bordeaux?
At the chateaux is an option. Otherwise, discover exquisite wines at local wine shops and boutique stores scattered throughout Bordeaux. Alternatively, let me organise a tasting with some of my partners when you’ll be able to ship worldwide. Probably the best option to have a comparative tasting. And very soon to ship directly with us.
Can I buy wine on a tour?
Absolutely! While purchasing wine is not obligatory, many chateaux offer select vintages for sale in their boutiques. Additionally, wine shops in Saint-Emilion, the Medoc, and Bordeaux boast impressive selections and often offer complimentary tastings. Treat yourself to a bottle or two as a cherished memento of your Bordeaux adventure.
Can children join the tour?
Yes, children are welcome to join our private tours when accompanied and supervised by an adult. As the legal drinking age in France is 18, children do not incur visit fees at most wineries. Please inform us of your children’s ages when booking. I do have kid’s seat to accommodate them in the vehicle.
What are the lunch options?
Indulge in diverse culinary experiences during your wine tour. Choose from Michelin-starred gastronomic delights, and cosy French bistros serving classic cuisine, or enjoy a delightful meal at a picturesque winery. For a more casual option, savour a scenic picnic amidst the vineyards. Let us know your preferences, and we’ll handle your restaurant reservations.
Do I have to reserve ahead of time?
To secure your preferred date and itinerary, we highly recommend booking your Bordeaux wine tour as early as possible. Our tours are popular and tend to fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to embark on your dream wine adventure – reserve your spot today!
